| Hi Kids!
We all like to receive affirmation and praise don’t we? Whether it be our friends, our teachers or our parents, to hear “good job” or “congratulations” is wonderful. Often times it helps to know that we are on the right path. But not always! People can give us praise for wrong things too God has given us an internal voice called our conscience. One person has called the conscience “the moral judge of the soul.” More than the praise of others, working to keep a clear or clean conscience is important. Because it is internal and, hopefully, properly trained by the God’s word, it is another tool to lead us in the right path. Paul sought to have a clean conscience before God and men (Acts 24:16), a clean conscience was one of his expectations as he taught (1 Tim 1:5). Unbeliever’s consciences can become seared (1 Tim 4:2) or corrupt (Tit 1:15) and the “witness” of the conscience is then no longer toward the right, but the bad. As believers we can sometimes have a weak conscience (1 Cor 8-10) that needs to be further trained and sharpened in discerning evil and good. Let’s seek to want to have our consciences say “congratulations” more than needing others to praise us. Let’s let God’s word correct and strengthen our consciences. |
